The Central Reserve Police Force (crpf long form) is the country's largest Central Armed Police Force. It is under the supervision from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of the Government of India. The CRPF's primary role lies in supporting the State and the Union Territories in their police work to ensure peace and order as well as combat rebellion. It was created in the form of Crown Representative's Police on 27 July 1939. Following Indian Independence, it was renamed it's own Central Reserve Police Force on the enactment of CRPF Act on 28 December 1949.

Besides law and order and counter-insurgency tasks, the CRPF has played a significant part during the country's generalelections. This is particularly true for the former state of Jammu as well as Kashmir, Bihar and in the North East, in the midst of unrest and sometimes violent conflicts. The elections to the Parliament of September 1999, the CRPF was a key player as a security force. As of late, CRPF contingents are also being deployed in UN missions.

With 246 battalions and various other institutions that make up the CRPF is regarded as India's biggest central police force armed with guns and is authorized to employ over 300,000 people as of the year 2019. [4]

Organizational Set-up of the Force

The Hqrs for the Force Headquarters of Central Reserve Police Force is located at Block No. 1, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. It is governed by Director General, who is assisted by the 3 Addl. Directors General , 9 Inspectors General of Police, a Financial Adviser and Director (Medical). Structure is as given below :

Administration

Administration Directorate Administration Directorate is functioning under the direction under the supervision of lG (Adm). He is assisted by DIG (Adm) & DIG (Welfare).

Personnel

The Personnel Directorate is functioning under the overall supervision from lG (Pers). He is supported with the help of DIG (Pers), DIG (CR & Vig), DIG (Org), DIG (Estt) and Comdt(Estt).

Training

The Training Directorate operates under the supervision under the supervision of IG(Training). The Directorate is supported by DIG (Training-l), DIG (Training-ll) and DIG(Sports).

Operations

The Operations Directorate is functioning under the direction from IG (OPS). He is assisted by DIG (OPS-I) in addition to DIG (OPS-II).

Provisioning

The Provisioning Directorate is working under the supervision from IG (Provisioning). He is supported with the help of DIG (Prov), DIG (Mod and Ord), DIG(MT), Comdt. (Mod) and Asstt. Director (Prov).

Communication

IG(Communication) is in charge of The IG(Communication) is responsible for the Communication Dte. He is supported by DIG (Eqpt ), DIG (Tech) and DIG (IT) .

Intelligence

The Intelligence Directorate is functioning under the overall supervision that of IG (Intelligence). He is assisted by DIG (MAC),Commandant(Int) and PRO.

Establishment

The Establishment branch is functioning under the direction of IG(Estt.). He is assisted in his work by DIG(Law) in addition to DIG (Rectt).

Finance

The Finance Branch and Pay is functioning within the direct Supervision of FA. It is co-ordinated by Dy.FA.

Medical

The Medical Branch is functioning under the direction of IG Director (Medical). They are assisted by 2 Dy. Director (Medical)
