CRPF: Central Reserve Police Force

CRPF stands for Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF). It is a paramilitary unit that is the biggest Central Armed Police Force in India. CRPF works under the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Governmentof India. Its main goal is to support the states and union territories governmentsin maintaining law and order within their respective territories. Its headquarters are in New Delhi, India. India's government India has set up the CRPR academy to provide training to students who want to join the CRPF. As of July 2017, Sh Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar is the Director General of CRPF.

The name CRPF originates of"the" Crown Representative's Police (CRP) that was established on the 27th of July, 1939 in order to protect British people who resided in the states that are sensitive to India.
In 1949, under the CRPF Act in 1949, the CRP was changed to CRPF.
On the 21st October in 1959, a tiny CRPF Patrol was attacked the Chinese soldiers. Ten of the twenty CRPF soldiers sacrificedtheir lives in defense of the nation. To commemorate the martyrdom of these soldiers, the date of October 21 is observed as Police CommemorationDay.
In the 1960s, a majority states police units amalgamated with CRPF.
Until 1965, CRPF was guarding the border between India and Pakistan. In the following year, BSF was deployed to protect the border.
It played a significant part in securing the security of militants in Punjab during the 1980s as well as insurgency at Tripura during 1990s.
In 1992, a specialized section from CRPF (Rapid Action Force) was established by converting 10 battalions unattached of CRPF to handle riots.
